Appeal for Political Action
Sudan is steadily moving towards the renewal of the civil war which has consumed that country for over fifty years. The Church in the Sudan stands as the largest civil institution advocating peace and reconciliation. What is at stake are the lives of the Christian majority in the south with five million Episcopalians, seven million Roman Catholics and a half million Presbyterians, Lutherans, Methodists and Pentecostals making up 90% of the population. If the civil war were to break out it is highly unlikely that the international community would commit to the interventions that we see in the Near East.
Therefore, the people and the Church would be alone as they have been through so much of the last five decade where four million lost their lives. Since January the increase attacks orchestrated by the Khartoum Government have claimed two thousand lives and displaced over a quarter of a million people from their home villages.
We need your help by contacting your members of Congress to take specific actions:

- Request that Special Envoy Gration meet with Archbishop Daniel Deng Bul and other Church leaders of an assessment of the current state of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA)
- Request the member of Congress to join the Sudan Caucus which is being renewed in the House.
Supporting materials include
